Twisted Luxe

A backlash against last year’s

austere minimalism has been

gathering momentum and at

the autumn/winter shows it

exploded onto the catwalks.

The splits, slits, and slashes

 that exposed acres of flesh

and the jewelcoloured silks

that recalled the hazy days of

Studio 54 were perfect for the

 Twisted Luxe trend,

an ode to excess and

extravagance, albeit with a

dark edge.

Be enthralled by the bias-cut,

 body-skimming gold dresses at

Altuzarra and the

embellishment at Balmain,

with its gold, silver

beading glinting temptingly

under the runway lights.

As if that wasn’t

enough, Moschino Cheap and

Chic showed ore-inspired,

thigh-skimming mini dresses,

while perfectly

subversive over-the-knee boots

ruled at Isabel Marant and

Francesco Scognamiglio.

Backstage provided inspiration

too. Hair might have been

slicked back at Altuzarra,

ruffled at Balmain and

beautifully blow-dried at

Scognamiglio, but it all added

up to the Twisted Luxe themes:

 expensive, luxe – and just a

little messed up.

Det är så roligt att det finns flera olika

stilar i trenderna. Inget är ju idag omodernt

men det finns vissa tydliga trender som kommer

vid varje sässong.
