Future Classics

The most self assured and sartorially

savvy crowd will fall for autumn/winter’s

futuristic look. Stripped back and

pared down, these uncompromisingly

sleek and chic clothes channelling a space-age

vibe were the big design news this season.

 But don’t be fooled into thinking they’re

simplistic or safe. They’re fiercely modern.

Hi-tech fabrics, innovative detailing and

new proportions all challenge the status quo.

Think boundary-pushing cocoon coats and

tulip skirts, or the origami-inspired pleating

on a Gianfranco Ferré collar.

For the queen of clean design look no further

 than Victoria Beckham, the ultimate

flag-bearer for this new, ultra-sleek style.

Though undoubtedly modern, these clothes

suggested a definite nod to 60s Courrèges,

with an abundance of strict, white,

streamlined tunics worn over skinny trousers,

as seen at Michael Kors. Fashion pundits

were quick to note a look that will be swiftly

 copied by the high street.

The Future Classics trend is about embracing

change, subverting the norm and pushing the

boundaries of style. It’s a tougher,

edgier evolution of last season’s minimalism,

 for anyone not afraid to adventure into the future.
